PGF Roundup
Hi, everyone. It's been a little while since our last post but we're back to give you an update on what's been going on.
First and foremost. We had the privilege of showcasing Gremlin Restoration at Perth Games Festival!
We thank anyone and everyone who came to the event and especially those who took the time to give our game a shot, and provide us some much needed feedback. Truly, thank you!
So you might be wondering, "how did it go?".
For a team as small and green as ours it was an eye-opening experience. To put a product we've put months of work into in front of such a large crowd is something none of us are familiar and definitely tested our nerves. Being able to watch someone who has never seen our game before interact with it was an amazing learning opportunity to really understand what needs improvement.
We were really pleased to see people of all ages be able to complete all four levels we had prepared for the event. Though at times they struggled or needed a little nudge in the right direction it really affirmed that we've been heading down the right path. However, not everyone had such an easy time. In particular, those who seemed to have less experience with games in general certainly struggled the most. While we've been trying to keep this in mind it was worthwhile to see what we still need to improve. In hindsight there are some area's that obviously were not going to be easily understood by everyone, or visual cues that were lacking and didn't create the clarity we were hoping for. In these cases the players often resorted to aimlessly trying to interact with everything in front of them without a clear goal. We ourselves would eventually have to give them the direction the game was lacking.
Our over all personal feeling about the event were quite mixed. Of course before hand we were a bit anxious about game breaking bugs popping up that we never experienced before. Just in general something completely unforeseen going wrong and everything failing without explanation. After the event kicked off, in general like I mentioned, it was a bit nerve-wracking having so many people judging what we made but overall it was a fun experience. Fortunately, nothing did indeed break and no major unforeseen bugs cropped up. So while there was certainly a lot of relief we didn't have such dire issues, there were also things we wish that went or looked better for our first event.
For the last week we've been working on properly identifying as many User Experience issues as possible and really iron out everything we noticed at the event. However that's not all we've been doing. We also recognise we still lack in sheer content and are doing our best to add in new and interesting levels as we can. For the next month these are our two focal points and I personally and very keen to see how far we can take things.
Once again. Thank you to all those who came to Perth Games Festival!
